The gateway translates information on merchant's Web sites into a format that can be read by an electronic processing system to process transactions online. The gateway uses 128-bit secure sockets layer (SSL) encryption so data remains secure. In addition, SPG screens transactions prior to authorization to check for fraud and uses the Address Verification Service (AVS) and card verification value 2 (CVV2) to help confirm user information.
